Over 100 police dogs from armed police departments across China showcased their physical strength and practical skills at competitions held in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Thursday.

The dogs were put through their paces by racing along challenging obstacle courses as well as completing practical tasks ranging from anti-explosive exercises, bag searches, drug detection and rescue missions.

"The competitions covered situations that we often encounter during our real tasks. We designed the competitions based on these situations so that the competitors can learn from each other. And this also helps us to find a new way for our future training regimes in terms of direction and methods," said Song Wenjun, head of the training base in Hohhot, capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The event will conclude on Sunday.
